World of Warcraft Archeology Guide

Archeology is a profession in the world of Warcraft game in the expansion Cataclysm. In this World of Warcraft archeology guide we will go over the basics of this profession. This profession is mostly for fun it's not necessary the archeology profession is optional.

In this World of Warcraft archeology guide we will go over four things:

1. Dig Sites 2. Survey and Fragments 3. Artifacts 4. Leveling Archeology

Dig Sites

When you start to do archeology training little shovels will appear on your world map, these are dig sites. There are four sites on every continent. Dig sites are specific for each player so you don't have to worry about competition. The amount of dig sites on your map depends on two things. Your archeology level and your character level.

Survey and fragments

When you start to train in archeology you will get a new ability called survey. This skill can be used only when you are inside of a dig site. When you are in your dig site use your survey ability and then a tripod will appear with a red, yellow or green light. At first move to the direction the tripod points, if the light is red that means what you are looking for is far away so you should run for a while when the light turns yellow that means you are getting closer and when the light turns green that means what you are looking for is within 40 yards. The moment you discover what you are looking for you will get fragments of the races you are going to study.

Here is a list of the races you'll be learning about in Archeology:

• Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor - Fossil, Night Elf, Troll, Dwarf
• Outland: Draenei, Orc
• Northrend: Nerubian, Vrykul
• Uldum: Tol'vir

Artifacts

At the moment you find your first fragment, a research project will begin. Each artifact requires a different amount of fragments. Fragments can vary from 25 to 150. When you have collected all the fragments for the artifact you can complete the artifact by clicking the Solve button. If there are some left over fragments then these will start a new project. Sadly you cannot choose which research project you will get, projects are picked out randomly for you.

Leveling Archeology

The bigger your level on archeology is the more cultures you can study. The following are the current levels:

Culture Level - Primary Location

Dwarf 1 Eastern Kingdoms; Kalimdor

Fossil 1 Eastern Kingdoms; Kalimdor

Night Elf 1 Eastern Kingdoms; Kalimdor; Northrend

Troll 1 Eastern Kingdoms; Kalimdor; Northrend

Draenei 300; Outland

Orc 300; Outland

Nerubian 375 Northrend; Eastern Kingdoms

Vrykul 375; Northrend

Tol'vir 450; Uldum

You can level your archeology skill in two ways.

One way is to pick up artifact pieces in the dig site. The other way is by solving. Solving will always increase your level not like picking up pieces that will only work on lower levels. When you solve a common artifact it will grant you 5 levels rare item gives 15.
